Christchurch, New Zealand rocked by powerful magnitude 7.0 earthquake
Building facades collapsed, roads ripped like paper and power lines fell when a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck New Zealand's South Island. The temblor, occurring at 4:35am local time, appears to have not claimed any lives despite being so powerful. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck a mere 30 miles west of New Zealand's second largest city, Christchurch.
